The Victorian Government offer programs and services for people with a disability.

Disability Services Commissioner
The Disability Services Commissioner (DSC) works with people with a disability to resolve complaints about disability service providers outside the NDIS to improve outcomes for people with a disability.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission is an independent statutory body with responsibilities under three laws

The Equal Opportunity Act makes it against the law to discriminate against people on the basis of a number of different personal characteristics.

Services provided by the Commission include

  • free telephone enquiry line on 1300 292 153
  • free, fair and timely dispute resolution service
  • information and education about equal opportunity, racial and religious vilification and the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities
  • education, training and consultancy services for employers

Public Transport Victoria
People with a disability and their families /carers may be eligible for a variety of supports.  This includes free or discounted travel for Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment recipients.

Travellers Aid help people with a disability access public transport and to take part in everyday life. This includes mobility equipment hire, accessible toilets with ceiling hoists, adult change tables and qualified carers to help. 

Assistance Animal Pass provides people with a disability to travel on public transport with the support of an assistance animal. 

Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria
The CPVV ensure that transport services, (taxis and hire cars, including rideshare) are accessible for all members of the community, including people with a disability.

Commercial passenger vehicle drivers have a legal responsibility to transport passengers and their assistance animals.

Multipurpose Taxi Program
Drivers that provide unbooked services must provide services for the Multi-Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP). The MPTP assists with the travel needs of people with severe and permanent disabilities, by offering subsidised taxi fares to members.

Disability Parking Permit
The Disability Parking Permit Scheme currently operates as a state-wide scheme.  It provides for two permit categories with varying parking concessions based on the applicant’s need for assistance.
