Transition to Work is a service to support job-seeking people aged 15-24 on their journey to employment.
In this service we provide intensive, pre-employment support to help you gain a better understanding of what you want to do, the various pathways to get there, and really feel ready to start work, an apprenticeship, traineeship, or study. This is done through a series of one-one-one sessions with a Transition Officer where we explore your skills and interests, identify possible career interests and work out together how those goals could be realised.
We will help you put together your resume, show you how to write job application letters, and offer tips about how to nail a job interview. We will find short courses for you to do to help build your skills for work or gaining more independence.
We also work with employers looking for willing workers so we can connect you directly with employers when they have a job that aligns with your interests.
One strength of the program is the way in which you will get to know your Transition Officer. They are very experienced and can help you deal with other things that might be preventing you from starting work like not having stable housing, drug or alcohol dependency issues, mental health challenges or other medical issues. Never be frightened to discuss this with your Transition Officer because we are here to help in every way – or to hook you up with the specialists who can help you.
The other great thing is you can be part of the Transition to Work program for up to 18 months – some of which can be supporting you as you settle in once you start your study or new job.
To participate in Transition to work you must be:
- Between 15-24 years of age
- Be an early school leaver or unemployed for at least the last six months
- Be an Australian Citizen, or a holder of a permanent visa, New Zealand Special Category Visa, or Nominated Visa (including Temporary Protection Visa or Safe Haven Visa)
