IMVCs Workplace Learning Program identifies, facilitates and coordinates industry specific learning opportunities for young people via Structured Workplace Learning, Youth Jobs PaTH or Work Experience.

Work Experience
Work experience is where a young person can experience the world of work, often for the first time. It is the short term placement of young people with employers, to provide insights into the industry, and the workplace in which they are located. Youth are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn – not to undertake activities which require extensive training or expertise.

Structured Workplace Learning
Structured Workplace Learning involves an employer accepting a student on a one day a week basis or a week block basis, enabling the student to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge in an industry setting. During the work placement, a student will have specific tasks to undertake in order to demonstrate competence. They will be regularly monitored and may be assessed on the job.

Youth Jobs PaTH
Youth Jobs PaTH is a flexible new approach to youth employment. It is designed to support young people aged between 17 -24 gain the skills and work experience they need to get and keep a job. It also supports employers to host internship placements and provides them with incentives when they take on a young person. Youth Jobs PaTH has three elements: Prepare – Trial – Hire. IMVC and Myer Melbourne

In 2018 the IMVC together with Myer Melbourne will be offering over 400 work experience and work placement opportunities to encourage youth engagement in the retail industry; promote career and pathway exploration; expose participants to employer expectations and the working environment; and build upon work readiness/employability skills training delivered by schools and TAFEs.

Work placement opportunities include:

Retail positions: One week blocks – positions available for students undertaking both work experience and work placements.

Retail positions: One day a week work placement positions for VCAL students

Retail-Cosmetics: One day a week work placements positions for VCAL students

Visual Merchandising: One week blocks – positions available only for Bendigo Kangan Institute, RMIT, Box Hill Institute and Victoria University students only.

Workplace learning provides participants with the opportunity to integrate on-the-job experience with study. It can be delivered as part of either VCE or VCAL, VCE Industry and Enterprise or VCAL Units, or the Year 10 Work Experience model.
